2024 Estate Field Selections Pinot Noir
We have procured and planted and grafted several heritage field selections, along with a few alleged suitcase selections from Vosne-Romanée, on our estate over the years. This bottling is a collection of those selections, planted predominantly on our darker sandstone soils. The 2024 vintage is more delicate than the 2023, as the vines yielded a bit more, extending the ripening season and allowed for slower flavor development. Fortunately, Mother Nature blessed us with a stretch of late-season warmth, enabling these blocks to achieve desired ripeness before the fall rains arrived. We selected for site transparency, complexity, and refinement, drawing primarily from three blocks within the Ornbaun soil series — a darker sandstone-based soil shaped by higher concentrations of iron, shale, and clay. Constant exposure to the cool, salty ocean air not only preserves freshness and natural acidity, but also accentuates the purity and expression of the fruit. The resulting 2024 Field Selections Pinot Noir is refined, expressive, and deeply evocative of its coastal origins. Nuanced, lifted, and savory, the wine reveals a distinctive coastal forest character layered with perfumed aromas of wild rose, plums, orange rind, cardamom, and saline. Notes of petrichor, wet stone, black truffle, and fir tips carry through the long, savory finish. Incredibly buoyant yet persistent on the palate, this is a gorgeous vintage that we are excited to release.
