“Westering,” by definition, speaks to the act of moving westward — toward possibility, discovery, a new frontier — a fitting reflection of our intentions, our search, and the style of coastal Pinot Noir we envisioned crafting when we first set out many years ago to find a property on which to plant a vineyard and build a small estate winery. At the time, no one had planted Pinot Noir this far west in Mendocino County, and many within the local wine community doubted whether Pinot Noir could fully ripen this close to the ocean. Drawn by the raw beauty, maritime influence, and untapped potential of this site, we embraced the challenge and followed our instincts westward. This bottling brings together our three seafloor-derived soil types along with multiple Pinot Noir clones to create a wine that is lifted, buoyant, structured and deeply expressive of its far western coastal origins. Constant exposure to the cool Pacific air preserves freshness and energy while accentuating the purity and vibrancy of the fruit. Wild raspberry, French plums, petrichor, rose hip, and tea leaf unfold seamlessly across both the nose and palate, creating an incredibly complex and lively coastal Pinot Noir. Relax, settle in, and enjoy the haunting aromatics of this elegant beauty, whose perfume is every bit as compelling as the palate itself. A graceful, food-friendly love letter to coastal Pinot Noir, grown on the most westerly vineyard in California.
