2014 Valenti Ranch Syrah

The Valenti Ranch is located 6 miles from the ocean on a ridge top within the Mendocino Ridge appellation. The maritime conditions flow directly east up the Greenwood Creek watershed blanketing the Valenti property with coastal fog and windy conditions. This reduces yields and berry size, resulting in increased intensity and complexity of flavors. The soils are ancient sea floor uplift in origin with predominately fractured decomposed sandstone and shale with a high content of iron. While this wine is reminiscent of the wines of the Northern Rhone, this Syrah is unmistakably California coastal Syrah. White pepper, dark bramble fruit, taut minerals and distinct conifer and iron mineral notes. A not to miss wine from an epic coastal vineyard site.
